As a person who is very influenced by their surroundings, I wanted to look at how my thoughts and feelings associate with my environment. Living in Paris for over three years, I have found my own routines become fixed and I often go to the same places to eat, walk, skate and take the same routes. In order to observe myself, I had to challenge myself to explore new environments.
I chose to take self-portraits but also images of my environment; capturing how I perceived it and thought it should be represented. I later added the images of myself into these, using a simple pasting technique that would appear from a distance, to camouflage my self-portrait into the environment.
I wanted it to be obvious that my self-portraits are separate, speaking of a disconnection, that I don’t feel as at ease in new places, showing how it takes time to become integrated.
